This year's theme week was Roycemore: 100 Years. The kids had a great time researching a pic of their interest and choosing between the years 1915 and 1940. Take a look at what they learned. The making of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was a lot harder than we thought. It was amazing how the movie all came together. Walt Disney had to get a lot of loans. He was worried because of the movie did not go well, he would have no money to pay them back. It was during the Great Depression, so it was very risky. He was being criticized for doing something so foolish. In the end, Snow White premiered and it was a hit. Likewise, we ran into some trouble creating our project, but in the end it was awesome. Just like Snow White. Even though Theme Week was stressful, it was a good challenge that was fun. We learned about animals during the Great Depression. During that time there was also a drought called the Dust Bowl. These times made it hard for people to get food and keep animals. The research process was difficult. There were not a lot of websites with the information I was looking for. It was kind of frustrating, but we did not let it get in our way. The Harlem Globetrotters have a long history. They started in Chicago in 1926. They were named the Harlem Globetrotters because of the Harlem Renaissance. We had to read a lot of information and pick out the best facts. It was fun finding the video to go with what we were saying. We could have spent a lot more time learning about them. It was awesome. Researching was challenging, but fun. During Theme Week we learned about women's rights. We learned about Carrie Chapman Catt and Alice Paul. We did not know about them at all before we started. We did a lot of research. Now we know that they were women who wanted to vote and presidents of groups of women who wanted to vote. Making the video was hard, but fun, most of the time. During Theme Week we learned that if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. The process was challenging and a little bit stressful. The research was really fun, but making our look book was stressful. Working in a group can be challenging because sometimes you want to do all the work your way. But you cannot, because you have to hear other peoples' ideas. We put all our focus into our book, worked hard, and got it done...together! During Theme Week I learned a lot about WWI. For example, how it started and why the US joined. Also, I learned to create a blog with Google sites. It was a really interesting way to present that I would not have thought of alone. This information is really cool. I learned a lot.
