Thank you all for your support of our students last week. We had so many fun and enriching activities - we really needed the weekend! Feel free to share 4th grade's hard work. Here is the link to a slide of the art exhibit, Scenes of Terabithia: An exhibit of emotion and color. This week will be time to wrap things up before the break...and we will be going ICE SKATING on Friday. WE leave at 9:30 am. The cost to rent ice skates is $5. We also need to know each child's shoe size. Please send $5 and your child's shoe size to school by Wednesday. No lunch is needed. According to teachers who went last year the ice rink gets a bit chilly— you may want your student to bring a hat and gloves to wear. It will be lots of fun! A long standing tradition is our WASSAIL CELEBRATION FRIDAY 12/18 2:00-3:00PM It is always a lovely way to end school before Winter Break. SCHOOL IS DISMISSED AT 3:00, EDP GOES TO 6:00 PM as usual. WINTER ENRICHMENT: You should have all received your winter enrichment flyers. Please remember they are due on Wednesday, Dec. 16. If you did not get them, send Melinda an email. ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES: Chess Club will not take place this week. Because of the Wassail and the early dismissal, Fitness Fun Friday and Spanish Club will also not take place this week.

Spirit Week was super fun last week. The kids really got into showing their Griffin pride! There are some great pictures in the slide show at the end of the post. The exhibit was a success this morning. Thank you for stopping in to see the students' beautiful art work. They worked hard in Mrs. O'Donnell's class to learn new techniques and show their ideas about their reading. They enjoyed sharing their work with all of you! Math We are stepping into long division. Please take some time to show your student when they might need to use long division. Seeing how the skill is applied in real life helps the concept become understood more fully. Social Studies The Columbian World's Exposition was a marvel to behold, according to the video the students are watching. We are talking about the context of the time period and what the fair really meant for Chicago. LA We continue reading Color Me Dark; The Diary of Nellie Lee Love, the Great Migration North. The students are making connections to what they see in today's world and are asking a lot of thoughtful questions. Today we talked a little bit about the signs that read: Black Lives Matter. You may want to ask your student about any thoughts or concerns they may be having. Please note December's important events!
