Grandparent's Day was so much fun! It was great to meet so many new faces. We hope your guests enjoyed themselves. Please scroll down to see some graet pictures from the day. LA The students completed I Survived the Great Chicago Fire by Lauren Tarshis. They focused on learning about the genre, historical fiction, onomatopoeias and theme. Monday will begin a second historical fiction novel entitled, Color Me Dark; The Diary of Nellie Lee Love, The Great Migration North. Social Studies We wrapped up learning about the Chicago Fire and will begin the World's Columbian Exposition on Monday. Math Wow! The students have been working diligently on their one bedroom apartment renovations. We completed a Google Hangout with an interior designer, who talked about being an entrepreneur, design elements and how she uses math in her work. It was awesome! This math project has them using multiplication in real-world application to find square footage and cost of items when renovating a home. After finding the square footage for flooring and paint costs, the students transferred the dimensions to a scale drawing. They had to include all the rooms and furniture, also drawn to scale. They are now using floorplanner.com to create a 3D model of their space. They are doing great! Please note December's important events!
